Creating a Background Image
A backdrop image can be any image file or even a Flash swf. There are a variety of image editing programs you can use to resize or even create your image files to suit your room.
Dimensions
- Whirled backdrops display at 500 pixels tall, and can be any width.
- Images of any other height will be resized, along with everything and everyone in the room, to fit 500 pixels.
- Taller images will display the room contents as small, including the avatars.
- Shorter images will display the room contents as large, including the avatars.
Two backgrounds automatically rescaled by Whirled. The left image was very tall, making the avatar small. The right image was very small, making the avatar large. You can see this effect at work in Rampage City.
Settings
- Mouse Movement Changes:
- Horizon - Check this box, then click and drag within the preview image to move the horizon up and down. This can also be done by entering an exact number into the "Horizon" text field.
- Background - Check this box, then click and drag within the preview image to offset the background image from the room's dimensions. It's unlikely you want to do this.
- Room type:
- Default - Logical depth and panning. This is probably what you want.
- Fixed Background - The background will stay in the exact same screen location, even when the room itself pans. This can be used in conjunction with a middle ground furniture object to create a distance depth illusion.
- Flatworld - Creates a room with no depth at all, but clicking anywhere in it will still move the player's avatar along the X axis. If you take a "default" room and cut the depth to the minimum, people would have to click on that tiny strip of ground to move.
- Hide Side Walls - Check this box to remove the wall boundaries. This emulates an open scene, like an outdoor setting.
